The community mural project “BE LOVE” was created in collaboration with Caritas, artist Tina Loidice, the shelter’s youth and Tstreet.

We have unforgettable memories of working on the project together side by side with the youth. They were excited to be a part of the community and the cause.

It was such an incredible experience to be witness to the shift that this project brought to both the youth and the community.

"Be Love", the art that becomes a community

2 Jul 2019 - 14:12

The work of street artist Tina Loiodice with the students of the Caritas Summer Center

Not even the great heat of these days stopped them: the enthusiasm was skyrocketing and the work represented the arrival point of a journey that began in November last year. On June 25th Tina Loiodice, one of the most important Roman street artists, signed a work created with the children of the Minor Ready Reception Center in Via Venafro and with the young people who attend the summer center promoted by Caritas in the neighborhood.

"Be Love" is the title of the mural that saw the contribution of the TStreet Foundation of Terese Clark, an organization that is committed to creating engaging public works of art in urban communities that encourage human connection and positive social change.

The work that the boys were involved in was started by a workshop with Tina Loiodice which took place on November 20, 2018 on the anniversary of the signing of the "Convention on the rights of children and adolescents".

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

IT WAS SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE TO BE WITNESS TO THE SHIFT THAT THIS PROJECT BROUGHT TO THE YOUTH AND THE COMMUNITY.

ART TRULY CAN BRING US ALL TOGETHER AND CONNECT US TO OUR COMMON HUMANITY.

ARTIST ANDY ECCLESHALL AND CURATOR TERESE CLARK LOOK UP AT A MURAL OF SEATTLE BASEBALL LEGEND EDO VANNI AT AEGIS OF QUEEN ANNE AT ROGERS PARK.

Photo taken by Joe Veyera.

When businesses develop a new property, they often will seek out ways to reach out and engage with the community that they are building in. Aegis Living wanted to 'give back' and honor the area that they were building in.

Tstreet's vision for the mural project was to both honor the time period of the residents living in the building as well as the history of the iconic Seattle neighborhood in which it was built.

Further research into the history of the area, revealed that legendary Seattle baseball hero, Edo Vanni was a longtime resident of the Queen Anne neighborhood. Mr. Vanni was a local celebrity and  known as the 'Dean of Baseball' in Seattle.

He attended the University of Washington, played with Fred Hutchinson (of Seattle's Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center) and had a successful career with the Seattle Rainer's baseball team.

Residents moving into the new community now frequently recognize the Baseball Hero from their time period.

A big thanks to artist Andy Eccleshaw, who's fine art talent and skills made this project a huge success.

A Spontaneous Studio Tour with artist Marco Tamburro.

To say that Marco Tamburro has a expansive artistic range is an understatement. He holds degrees in Architecture, Visual Arts and Interior Design. Originally from Perugia, he was drawn to the cultural beauty and quality of life in Rome.

An incredibly successful painter, his works appear in galleries and alternative spaces of the urban scene. He is active in the theatre and fashion industry as well.

I was thrilled to spend an afternoon in his gallery in Rome viewing  his current works and discussing his upcoming projects.

Marco with one piece

In the painting above, Marco shares his interpretation of our world of distractions and the  'depersonalization' of the human being who lives, but does not truly exist.

I admire Marco's drive and commitment for self expression through his pieces. His style is bold, colorful and energizing.

It was an incredible experience to connect with this talented artist.    His drive and unique ability to create works that transcend to multiple milieus is inspiring.

Check out Marco's website to witness the process he goes through to create his work. So Inspiring.

Jerico: Talented beyond his years.

Jericho is a Filipino artist who lives in Rome, Italy.

He relocated to Rome with his family when he 10 years old, and began his immersion into the Italian culture. At the young age of 13, he started creating graffiti and would post his work in abandoned and secluded areas.

His love of Art History surfaced early on and notes that he was influenced in his studies by a variety of artists such as Francis Bacon and Van Gogh.  His talent and generous spirit is beyond his years. His mural works are much sought after.

‘The Great Peace’

Jerico’s portrait above is located in a large park in Rome.  When one walks past it, it is quite calming.. and effects the observer slows down.

Lovely to connect with Jerico in Rome this past June.                             We spent time together discussing his work, passions, and next projects. Our passions are well aligned in regards to the profound shift that public art brings to communities. His works are incredibly impactful.

He is great example of the impact of story telling and urban regeneration. Such a unique style and spirit.  Watch out world!

Swings emerge as a musical instrument in this playful public artwork

I am loving this innovative public art project 21 Swings by Tous Les Jours! Each swing triggers a different musical note, and when multiple swings are used at the same time, it creates a musical composition, where different melodies emerge. Through collaboration and play, individuals create music together. This interactive project brings together community and gives people - including adults - space to play. Innovative and interactive!

Robert Vargas

Robert Vargas is an Los Angeles based artist. He paints the people in his community in a unique spontaneous way.  He’ll sit in a public space and spontaneously ask a stranger if he can draw them. In that moment, when he’s sketching someone, he is able to capture their essence and soul.

"I love to paint from life."

Contemporary Artist Brad Downey

During my time onsite at the Big City Life project in Rome,  I had the pleasure of spending time with contemporary artist Brad Downey.

Brad is renowned for his unique work. His installations are characterized by spontaneous sculptures and clever urban interventions using found objects in unconventional ways. He is American born and based in Berlin.

FOUNTAIN, BRAD DOWNEY, 2013

FOUNTAIN, BRAD DOWNEY, 2013

Brad took a unique conceptual approach to the Big City Life project. He spoke with the residents living in the building and asked if they had any grievances or uncompleted repairs in their apartments. In response,   Brad in turn created a winch on the balcony of one of the residents' apartments to lift up heavy bags. This installation piece was one of many he created to provide solutions to those problems. I loved his selfless focus and found his creativity inspiring!

"I hope my work could have the potential to inspire people to change something. This is my job, to show others that it is at least possible to change a city and participate in questioning objects".
